One of my direct says that airbnb offered her 480k tc so that she is leaving. She is sde2 and even if I promote her to Sde3, it is still hard to match. Since airbnb is still private, I am interested to under their tc structure better. Anyone has a good insight? Thanks
Even I don’t understand the crazy high numbers from Uber/AirBnB/Lyft that generally beat the numbers from Google/FB/Amazon etc. What is the catch ? Is their paper money overvalued ? Or are they hiring less number of ppl for more work ? Or something else ?
We want the best possible. We hire the same people that would go to G/FB, actually a huge portion of our industry hires are ex-G/FB. Part of the trade off is that you have less liquid comp pre-IPO but you make more in the long run if the company does well.
Yeah I know that you guys hire the best possible and I am sure google and FB want to do the same as well; and when we compare their money + RSU power, it is not easy for pre-ipo companies like AirBnB to beat them. But yet we see very high numbers from AirBnB. As I understand, the current RSU value is included in TC calculations (not the future RSU value). Just wondering how is it possible.
I think private companies are paying less to managers and more to Engineers.
Can u promote with counter offer?
$480k TC is massive for 6 yoe
airbnb IPO is nowhere near, thus they have to compensate for a long wait.
That must include signon.
Never heard that high offer at least for L5
Believe it. I got verbal offer in the same ballpark for L5. Super stoked right now.
Unless she includes sign on bonus, cash bonus, annual refresh as parts of TC
I think she is including everything. That's why I was trying to understand the structure of TC. At Amazon, you get base + cash for first two years, and then base + rsu for the next two years. For airbnb, what is the case? And does the share from airbnb is cashable?
Thanks
This is probably an L6 offer.
Have an offer with Airbnb now. 420K TC but with 9 yoe
L6?
Yes
location? yoe?
Bay area, 6 years
thatz crazy offer for 6 yoe (even from a private company). Not sure about Airbnb but I have seen few 400-425k offers from lyft. may be c badly wants to leave your team and throwing some number:)
