Airbnb refreah and bonus

How does Airbnb do stock refresh? Is that twice a year (with half of yearly amount) or just once a year? What is the cutoff join date for eligibility for the refresh? How about bonus? What is the cut off date for eligibility for bonus?

Airbnb RealSlimS Sep 25, 2019

Once a year in February. The refreshers depend on an average of your two reviews for the year (mid year and end of year). 1x refresher if your average is “meets expectations” (3 out of 5). Bonus is dependent on company perf and your personal level, so it’s company goal percentage times your personal level bonus times your base pay, which is 15% for L4 and 20% for L5 and 5% per personal level. This bonus only lasts for one more half year, and you’re only eligible if you join before oct 1st. There’s no announcement for bonus beyond this year. Refresher is the same: join before Oct 1st.

Thanks for the info What do you mean by this bonus only lasts for one more half year ? Wouldn’t it continue after that? For example if I join in September, and I’ll receive my first perf review at the end of the year, what will be my refresher at the end of 2020 then?

The bonus program is a two year pilot that started for 2018. Company already announced the pilot bonus program will end after this half

So people have to join before Oct 1st this year to be eligible for the refresh at the year end of next year?

Airbnb RealSlimS Sep 26, 2019

No, they have to join before Oct 1 if they want to be eligible for this half. Three months for a half of year of bonus; it’s pretty generous.

So meet expectations is 3 out of 5. What are 1 and 2 then? Does that mean bad performance and PIP?

Airbnb RealSlimS Sep 26, 2019

From what I’ve observed, two straight below 3 is a PIP, or one 1 is a PIP. I’ve seen many people recover from a 2 out of 5, but most of them end up transferring to a different manager after they are in the safe zone again. IMO, 2 out of 5 is a six month trial period (what PIP is supposed to be for) and PIP is basically some time for you to find another job. In my observations, PIP is very rare at Airbnb; the 2 out of 5 just ends up making people nervous for six months.
