I got a verbal offer from Akamai for Sr. SWE role (remote position) 15% perf bonus, no RSU, no sign on. Im based out of bay area. Am i being low balled? Is there any room for negotiation? Please help evaluate. Yoe: 8 Base 141k + 15% perf bonus Edit: I moved from Cisco couple years back, was laid off from new employer and in the job market for 2 months. I cant let go off this offer but seeking for advice if theres any room for negotiation here.
That’s very clearly a lowball, both for your YoE, and for Akami specifically (https://www.levels.fyi/companies/akamai/salaries/software-engineer)
Unless you are banking on remote and your current place doesn’t offer it - I wouldn’t. Pay doesn’t look great and always a risk of a newer company forcing you back to some office in the future.
Akamai IS a remote first company! They have in fact switched to a WeWork kind of a model in States with lesser employees like Washington. They really have no plans for RTO
Even despite their outsized, fancy new HQ on Broadway?
Recently got hired here (same experience) with slightly less base but 60k RSUs over 4 years. they may be tightening up on the RSUs, who knows. Overall it might not be the best but it’s decent for where you’re going. If you have any leverage to negotiate with, definitely do so. otherwise, very few companies are fully embracing full remote like Akamai is AFAICT. If you care about that (I definitely did) I’d say take it. Doesn’t feel like remote is going anywhere here. Good luck!
Exactly my though too. Hows wlb?
Honestly wonderful. They let me take my own pace learning all the systems. Great team. We’ll see how it plays out but I’m loving it so far. Got a fam too and different time zones and they really work with you.
Wait for written offer. My understanding is that rsu are only offered for senior2 level and above. But imo it's a lowball. Maybe take job but keep looking for something better
definitely get RSUs for Senior 1, I just got some a few months ago.
I got RSUs for SDE-2 as well
it's low ball. specifically if you're getting hired in cloud or security. you need to negotiate hard on RSUs.
You can always negotiate the first offer. There's mostly only upside.
It's a low ball. You should definitely get RSU,they usually give it to sse.May be wait for written offer, it will be clear. Akamai is usually transparent with offers.
Akamai TC is a joke
who hurt you?
Nobody. But an akamai recruiter did waste my time during screening before telling me the TC for SWE2 position.
Yes i think? Dont new grads make 150k base
Yes
Where? At Meta in 2022?
