Whats it like to work for the Alexa org these days at Amazon? This is for Seattle specifically. I’m a new grad joining Amazon and one of my placement options was for Alexa. My other options are in AWS.
If you're smart enough to get on at Alexa, you're smart enough at any of those others.
Unfortunately I’m stuck with Amazon. I didnt pass anyone else’s interview. So I have to work with what I’ve got.
AWS is better then
How so? I heard they can have brutal on call
The Alexa org is huge. Your experience will vary wildly depending on the team and manager. Some good some bad like anywhere else. All are moving fast. But moving around is easy if you get stuck on a bad team.
I have spent time in both. AWS is a big place and each product has its own quirks, demands, etc but all have an extremely high operational bar set by the great cbell@. Alexa has some equally interesting problems, but with the caveat/bonus that Netflix does not go down if Alexa has an outage. Not that Alexa has low operational standards, but it was a breath of fresh air for me.
Both horrible. Fb, msft, Google, a million other have big offices in Seattle.e
