Already a DS Analytics - Worth Getting a MS?

As the title suggests, I'm currently a Data Scientist, Analytics at growth-stage tech (logistics focus). I have 5 YOE in tech (started as a PM, then moved to DS because I find it more fun) and am now exploring stats/ds masters programs as my end-goal is to move into an analytical leadership role (DS, PM.. TBD) at a FAANG or whatever we're calling it these days. When I look at Director-level DS roles at MSFT, Amazon, etc., a MS seems to be a common pre-req... I'm conflicted - I already have the DS title and a strong network that I'm confident I can leverage to continue to move up in my career to an extent, though I don't have the strong stats/math background, nor the graduate degree to bolster my resume. I have a Bachelors in Econ from a top-20 private. DS/Analytics Hiring Managers: What do you think? Worth it for me to get a PT Masters in Stats (or DS/CS) to bulk up on the technical side? Thanks #data #dataanalytics #datascience #masters

I'm also considering the Penn MCIT program to double down on tech skills with an emphasis on stats/modeling through electives.

Advanced degrees were more valued years ago, it’s not as critical to move up in career these days. But I think a MS is worth it as long as you’re doing part-time and not sacrificing yoe/salary. I went the fulltime MS route and it only set me back in my career. Coworkers in my previous company are now a level or more ahead of me

Not needed unless you want it for your own learning or your company will pay for it, more important is the work experience and successful projects
