Am I a job hopper? First company - 1 year and 2 months Second company - 1 year and 5 months Third company - 1 year and 3 months Fourth company - 2 years and 3 months I have just changed company and I don't like it. The technical level is much lower than in the previous one, so after about a year I want to change. I changed the first two companies, mainly because there was no growth there. In the third company I had a manager with mental problems because of isolation in COVID, and like most people I left. The fourth company was very nice, but they blocked my promotion, even though I had information from technical recruiters that they were hiring people much weaker technically than me for a higher grade.
Doesn't matter. You know what does? TC
Shitty, since I live in low col country in Europe. TC: 100k usd/90k euro
90k in LCOL Europe is really good after 5 years
Look at this flith
What is your tech stack?
Mainly JVM, so Kotlin and Java. I had multi-cloud experience, built pipelines, infrastructure, managed k8s cluster etc. Moreover, I had experience with reactive programming, low latency system, performance improvement and system design of important services for business. That's why I earn 100k USD in low col country in Europe, since I would say my skills are in demand.
OP you’re doing quite well for yourself. Don’t worry if people label you as a “job hopper,” honestly that even isn’t that bad of a thing
I am a job hopper because companies fail to pay what the market is offering. I evaluate the market 1 or 1.5yrs. It is their fault, not mine.
Realize that while you may get short term jumps doing this, it won’t work long term because you will price out and there is a plateau you will reach. Find a place where you’ll have opportunities to grow or band together with others in industry and start a company.
OP doesn't matter if you are a job hopper at 5 yoe do your thing. Once you are more senior cut that shit out .... also don't use information from recruiters at your company to try to judge leveling it's just not going to go well lol the bar is usually higher for a promo unfortunately since you have a lot more information given to the employer to make that call and they have slightly less intensive to move you
it doesn’t matter
Job hopping is quite normal in the beginning of your career. I stayed in my first two jobs for less than a year each and my third job less than two full years. When I was looking for my fourth job, I definitely was asked some questions about my job hopping. As long as you have a good explanation, it doesn't kill your chances. But the more hops you have, the more you can expect to be asked about it (and perhaps the better your story will have to be). Looking at your terms, I think it's not the end of the world. Especially since you were at your fourth company for more than two years. But in your next search, I recommend focusing on finding a place where you can imagine yourself settling down for a longer period of time (at least in the 4 years range).
