Lately I have started dreading what Amazon will do to the world? 1. No other e commerce will survive and many companies will shut down 2. They will create massive waste and irreparable damage to the environment 3. The extreme toxic work environment will be normalized as customer obsession and only people in their 20s to 30s will survive. Older people will not (there are exceptions) match that energy level. So if you are not fat fired you are screwed. 4. They will start creating all items of their own brand and promote it higher than other brands. Only they and manufacturers in China will benefit. Others are screwed. 5. I am having sleepless nights thinking I still have 2 decades worth career left and my energy is not the same. I cannot sleep only 5 hours and still be highly active. Am I paranoid for no reason? Am I thinking too much or spending too much time on blind ?
One the environment side, with economy of scale it might actually be cleaner than traditional stores. Just think of how efficient supply chain is optimized. Also if the driver is delivering a lot to one neighborhood a lot of individual trips are avoided. Someone tell me I’m wrong with more data?
Its still a hope but, I also feel as Amazon targets going green, doing it at Amazon scale will force all parties involved to invent there way out of it. The kind of scale needed to make a worthwhile impact, Amazon has that.
You're sleepless because of Amazon Lol don't worry every company does in due time.
Every company does what?

We are all HypoScalers compared to Amazon. I’m not concerned yet. I will be once they offshore and commoditize software development Broke: child labor in coal mines Woke: child labor making apps 🍌
Dude you’re being a little hype. Try to remember that thoughts != reality and you don’t have to take them so seriously
Maybe take a job at Amazon to allay your fears 🙂
How is your experience? If you don’t mind me asking how old are you? Are pip stories we keep reading as bad as they seem ? I read somewhere that 911 calls regarding mental health breakdowns and suicides were common in fulfillment center.
I’m a PM in AWS and it’s been great so far. I’ve been learning a lot and working on things that I’m pretty sure will make a difference in people’s lives. No one in my org has ever been pipped for the few years I’ve been here
Your fear is justified. I feel that too. Every fucking thing is monitored by a machine. They started putting camera facing delivery drivers. In the warehouse , your orders are counted by a machine and thresholds are or course set according to the best performer so old people have no option other than peeing in water bottles to save time.
Wow! That’s it. I am shopping from Walmart or target from now on. I cannot be part of this toxicity
Walmart is also starting a serving like prime. Walmart plus. Fuck amazon. The leadership keeps sAying we have to move fast, with no support to employees whatsoever, and instead the pip them when their crazy deadlines are not met. All high level meetings are ego wars basically , leaders blabbering the biggest numbers possible that have no actual significance . No empathy towards anyone. I honestly feel more than 50% of third party sellers should double check their statements as more than 100k accounting transactions are stuck in the pipeline for more than 2 years at any given time. Teams dont have the oncall bandwidth to solve those issues. Its a shit show guys. They do a very good job of showing the world that they are this amazing company.
Can we count on any anti-trust measures? There are a lot of monopolistic/anti-competitive practices going on there for sure.
