Am I fooled into Amazon's SDE2 interview instead of SDE3?
YoE: 15+ It was my second interview with Amazon. From the beginning, I made it clear I'm targeting SDE3 but the interviewer just mentioned it's targeted for mid/senior level (without giving me the feeling that it's not targeted for SDE3). I did the interview and I got accepted for SDE2. The (virtual) on-site interview was only 4 interviews. I've seen that SDE3 on-site are 5 interviews. The recruiter says I would be accepted for SDE3 if I met the bar. But knowing that SDE3 on-site consists of 5 interviews, I started doubting them. #amazon #sde3 #sde2 #interview
There's no rule for the number of interviews. How many system design problems did you solve?
One, though wouldn't call it 100% design, it had some coding too.
Yeah only 1 system design + it wasn't that heavy of a design + only 4 interviews implies to me that they interviewed you for sde2. None of us can be 100% sure, though. Either way, it shouldn't affect your decision too much. You got SDE2, and from your recruiter's attitude it's unlikely they will try to uplevel you (although you should still try).
All the faang companies will fuck you over if you’re not coming from another faang. I applied to Microsoft as a senior and got leveled as a level 62 with no explanation despite acing my interviews. And now I’m doing senior level work. Stand your ground whatever happens

They even downlevel people from faang. My friend from Amazon interviewed with MS for L62 and got accepted as L61 with 5 yoe after acing the rounds
Looks like they interviewed you for sde2. You will know is you got an offer

They did the exact same thing to me OP. I asked for SDE3 but they put me in the SDE2 loop. I didn’t find this out until after they gave me an offer. I rejected it and they refused to uplevel even with a competing offer which was leveled at SDE3. Recruiter lied.
Sadly, in industry specially in India. Your position is based on your current compensation.
