Average (at best) SDET here, in my 40s. TC right now is maybe $90K? Base salary is 70 in Phoenix AZ. It seems like I'm the only one on Blind who isn't making six figures. I mean there's gotta be more people out there like me who barely skate by lol in fact during my next performance review I'm honestly going to ask for a pay cut because I don't feel like I bring enough to the table to warrant my meager salary. Where are my fellow underachievers? 😅
Dude, Phoenix cost of living is maybe 30percent of Bay Area.
Arizona isn’t expensive. Overall. So you need to understand the difference here of posters.
how are you 40 yet don’t understand cost of living
Moreover not everything said here is the truth..
This. The investment banks in the valley evaluate public Comp structures all the time for cost efficiencies. There’s no way only the best of the best post here. And according to the Comp structures I used to look at, the numbers I see here are the top of the top most of the time.
With the kind of advertising blind puts out you'd expect a higher fraction of people interested in optimizing comp. I'm inclined to believe most numbers I see here since I'm making 350k and have recently gotten an offer with 480k TC. But hey, I may be a troll. Re OP, Bay area does explain part of the difference, but op's self-described skill level, age and self worth probably are important factors too.
Not making $100k TC in your 40s is pretty bad for having software development skills. Did you go to a 4 year college?
We are talking per year, nor per month
Wow.. Says someone from ms. If you adjust your salary to phoenix cost of living, your salary wouldn't be much different from op.
But still 90k TC is less in Arizona . I am based out of Phoenix . 1 year out of school. I make 95 base. Looks like u are being too humble to ur bosses. Don’t know for SDET, but for SDE it should be atleast 140+ given that u have experience of 15-20 yrs
After 40+ companies don't like to hire you
95k is pretty low frankly as well
I hear imposter syndrome talking
Had to look that one up, but yeah that's certainly a possibility. Thanks🙂
It's super easy to get imposter syndrome here, ESPECIALLY in support.
Dude, blind is a microcosm of the top 10% of people in tech... Most people don't work at the companies that people do here and most people don't make the kind of money that people do here. If you're happy with your lot then be content, otherwise, upskill and move to a company that competes in the 75th+ percentile of the market.
Wise words for sure. Thanks!
Are you sure it's top 10% and not even higher (ie. 5%, 3%, ...)?
