(new grad) Got rejected from my dream job, should I just end it all
I work as a senior devops engineer and making 130k 10% yearly bonus. I have around 5 years of experience, 3 as devops and 2+ as full stack developer. Technologies I have the most experience with or currently working with - Azure, terraform, azure devops, github actions, andible, linux, react, javascript, node, and c++ for embedded, docker , kubernetes. Only been at my current company 2 months. I live in Seattle and remotely. MedTech industry. Could i make more? How much? What company/ies? Advices welcome. I need to know and how much i could potentially make at other companies to make necessary changes. How does the interview process look like for devops for faang companies? TC : 143k #engineering #software #swe #devops #faang #sre #cloud
Could you edit the post to include which languages you work with or are familiar with? Based on languages and the technologies you have mentioned, you might be a good candidate for a switch to proper SRE-like roles. Google and some other companies call them SRE, Amazon calls it SysDev, Meta calls it PE, and so on. YoE are the only catch in this current market, but I def think you should hit the 150k-200k bracket (TC, not base) at a Tier 2/3 company, and even higher at a Tier 1.
Updated the post. I see. Thanks for the input. Do SREs need to do leetcode type questions when interviewing for faang?
Best way to find out is be to put yourself out there and interview, given that you've been at current company for 2 months it's likely you already did this (unless it was something like an intern or contractor to FTE path without much options or exploring).
Location ?
Seattle
Sounds like you are being paid your market value.
Do software engineers make more?
What do you do now? Also, can you elaborate on the embedded part?
I support embedded teams in my company with all their cloud, CICD pipelines stuff… from building the apps to testing to packaging and delivering the executables onto the physical devices
That's DevOps or Release engineering. It's not the embedded domain. Anyway, your salary seems fine (solely based on your experience). What's your education background & location? Those factors will also greatly determine where you are on the pay scale for your profile. Also, do you know if y'all are hiring for embedded or low level software roles?
you are way underpaid zuck was earning much more with 5 yeo. conclusion: YEO != TC TC = talent
Leetcode is the way to go
Do SREs need to do leetcode type questions when interviewing for faang?
I've heard yes, but not as difficult.
