Got an offer from Amazon Sde 1 at Amazon Prime Video in London. Base: £48 + 19 joining + stocks Yoe: 2.5 years Experience: Worked in Microsoft, now in Monzo All in all the 1st year TC is about 67k. My current base is 65k pounds and TC is around 80k. Can Amazon really reduce my current base from 65 to 48. I would love to work in Amazon but also don't want my base to go down. Can I negotiate with them to at least give the same base or in worst case move it to 60k? Almost all tech companies honor the 'dont reduce current base' code. I hope Amazon is no exception.
Never take an offer to reduce your base
Isn't prime video org overall bad?
I work in PV UK - it’s a political shit show. A case study in sycophancy and manager abuse
Overall quite chaotic, on-call work might be tough and legacy software is currently on the path to deprecation but not quite there yet, causing much pain. Some teams may be quite interesting however, and the feature teams certainly have it better.
You’re being screwed. Don’t let them set your career back so significantly. It will take you 5 years to come back to your existing salary at Amazon
So for SDE1 the highest base salary you can negotiate (even with a strong competitive FAANG offer) is £55k. The offer you got is an average SDE I package for your YoE, so you can definitely negotiate it higher but don’t expect it to go up too much. The highest end of SDE I offer package at Amazon London is around £75000, the recruiters will be unable to increase TC without you upgrading to SDE II.
Thanks for the number. Amazon definitely suck in London when it comes to pay compare to other FANG
Amazon and Microsoft pays the same. And then there’s FB and Google.
Monzo is a much more interesting place to work than Amazon. The offer is really bad putting London's big tech in picture, hot companies like OVO Energy, Starling and Monzo pay way more than that.
The company and work is interesting but people around my team are quite young and relatively inexperienced just like me. Also I've heard good things about Prime Video team in London. Lastly I would like to keep the option of moving to US/Canada in future.
Interesting, if you have competing offers, use that hand. If not, are you Interviewing with other big techs in London (Bloomberg, Google)?
