Amazon AS career prospects vs SDE

Getting out of the navy and have seen some opportunities where service members can basically go work at Amazon while still in the navy for a 12 week internship right before they get out. Some of these roles include Both SDE(cleared and non cleared) Applied Scientist 1 My BS is in physics MS is in Comp Sci ML from top 10 My question is: What career trajectory’s can AS take and how do they differ from SDE/SWE? I prefer this route as I have some research experience and did some research with NASA before the navy however would be willing to do general SWE career path. The subquestions/implied questions here are: 1) can an AS use time as AS for YOR when applying to SWE/SDM jobs? 2) Are AS competitive for MLE jobs at FB and google… does TC for these match normal SWE TC? 3) Are you hurting/limiting career growth via specializing early on?
