Hi all, So I’ve been getting emails from a recruiter at amazon advertising (for an engineering position). I’ve been reluctant to respond because, as many are aware, there are a lot of rumors floating around about amazon WLB. From being on blind and asking around, seems like amazon has good/bad teams, and some are better than others. I was wondering where Amazon advertising fits here? How is WLB at advertising specifically? Anything else I should know about this team specifically? Also, what kind of comp could I expect out of an amazon offer with 3.5 YOE on this team (accelerated associate track, idk if that matters though)?
I am in Ads (Not SSPA). Wlb is good for the past 4 years. Recently i got busier. Maybe because I am preparing for promotion or maybe the new VP is pushing harder.
SSPA is bad! Leadership is not good.
Also looking at advertising in nyc, have call with recruiter soon and interested in lay of the land and good and bad teams TC: 215k
I think hard for anyone to pinpoint a particular bad team unless they’re on it or left it. When you do your manager call, dig deep and really ask question that would give you insight into if you think it’s a good fit. This occurs after you successfully pass the interview. Feel free to ask about wlb, how many sev2s there are, on call schedule, roadmap, planning process (do they have an actual process?), SDM background (you want someone who has SDE exp), team attrition, etc
Thanks, that makes sense Amazon and I do have questions to ask to hopefully sus out some of those bad teams but since I just started the process and recruiter basically said they are hiring everywhere I figured would start somewhere good. I saw under teams on amazon.jobs that DSP and Live have fewer openings so would something like that have less growth opportunities? (looking at SDE3 but would take SDE2)
FWIW, SSPA = Self Service Performance Advertising. This an internal name. We now refer to the team as Performance Advertising. And, yes, the Ads team is the fastest growing business across all of Amazon.
I just accepted an offer at Amazon Ads (performance) my recruiter was amazing and nice and everyone I interviewed with in the team was awesome. If I had ONE bad vibe I would have turned down. I say take the interview and scope out the team, it really is all about the vibe and the hiring manager. Forget about the rest!
Hello, are you working for Toronto team. If yes how is the work culture and wlb there?
What role you got?
Any reviews about CCS? (Campaign & Creative Services) team?
Any idea which team in advertising? ads is huge and distributed across a ton of sites. Fwiw, I’m in ads and it really has been a good experience and good wlb.
Recruiter wanted to call to go over specific roles that are open, so not sure yet - what team are you on? What teams have u heard are good /bad?
