I feel like Amazon has a blunt culture with no regards to how people feel which may offend people. So when someone senior suggests something to do, junior engineers cry because they feel offended which is perceived as toxic even if the suggestion is a valid suggestion Is this toxic or just blunt culture that new generation can’t handle because they are soft? #amazon #pip #focus #forte
Be always nice and polite yourself. It's contagious
even if noones recognizing that, stay at it. dont wanna stoop down to “their” level
Amazon would probably be a much more chill place if more of the employees were smoking blunts.
You can still have a cut throat, competitive or whatever culture and be polite. It’s just having the guts to tolerate the defensive lash that comes your way once the words are out. Anticipating it, we try to be aggressive upfront which offends people.
You can't survive at Amazon if you take what people say personally. Everyone is busy and has people pushing them to get stuff done asap from all directions. People are stressed and burnt out so will just cut out the bullshit and say what needs to be said. It's not for everyone. Do I know of people that broke down crying after being grilled by senior engineers and management in design meetings? Yes. If you disagree with someone then you better have data to back it up otherwise you're just wasting time.
I agree with you mostly. However sometimes there are people who used “just being honest” as a reason to be a dickhead you can simply say “sorry this isnt gonna cut it/not good enough/unacceptable”. yet hearing someone calling people trash or shit or who fucking raised you isn’t uncommon in amzn
Really bad
