What keeps people around in this org? The turnover within Amazon Business seems extremely high and almost everyone seems to be constantly stressed across all teams. Is there any redeeming quality in this org? I plan to move out soon, but have been shocked by the WLB (nonexistent for most), constant need to be responding to emails around the clock and a toxic culture.
I would say people stay because it pays good and could be a good stepping stone for a better fang company.
I hear Amazon music is a decent org. It is a good stepping stone and you will think Amazon is better than it is for the first 8 months. Unfortunately so many teams are plagued with a toxic culture that is nearly impossible to root out. There are leadership principles, but when the going gets tough you will just hear HR lip service about why comp can’t be adjusted, the amazing products you work on, etc. the leaders aren’t honest. Truth is our consumer business is losing a ton of money because we overexpanded and built too many fulfillment centers. There is unused space and we are paying dearly for it. Instead of owning up to this mistake and admitting they expanded too quickly to fast and now that COVID is largely over and people aren’t only ordering online we have significant excess capacity. These decisions are made at a Director,VP, SVP level and they refuse to own them. People would much prefer you admitted to your mistake instead of HR continuing to lie and make up excuses.
