Amazon Dublin
Hi I recently got an offer from aws Dublin as sde2. currently I am also sde2 in Singapore. I was thinking to move to aws, for better learning and growth. Though I am wonder about 1. WLB and overall culture is it too harsh like India or China ? 2. Overall career growth and opportunity TC : 150k including everything with stocks. Mentioning number for reference, though I request to focus more on career growth instead of TC. As I am not thinking more for long term and not much about monetary wise. #amazonaws #amazon #dublin

The good side is: AWS is great for career growth, you are open to a lot of projects at a very fast pace, using latest technologies and building things in scale, pretty cool. The bad side is: everything comes with a cost - you are likely going to have higher pressure and more stress due to the fast pace here at AWS. So it’s up to you to make the decision and balance out work and life. Overall, career growth is 100%, I am doing 2 years worth of things in 1 year. But I’m getting pretty much no life besides work, working 60-80+ hours a week to get things done, even over the weekends. Another thing to consider is: AWS oncall - if you end up going to a popular service, your oncall load is likely going to be pretty heavy.
Thanks for the detail answers, I was actually looking for this only. so is it same 200% work load with most of teams or only few ? Also by career growth you mean only learning curve or overall career growth ? and how about promotion cycle ?
