Been in amazon for around one year & I think the new manager is planning to fire me. In my last 1:1, I directly asked him if I am in focus & he denied. Will they fire without any PIP? In that case can I get any severance? TC: 200 Level: L4 #amazon #fire #severance
You will be put on focus, then after that pivot offers you the option of taking severance and leaving. If you take it then you will never work for Amazon or any subsidiary of it ever again. Amazon doesn't just fire if performance is the issue, they will give you the opportunity to improve. For some reason Blind views that 2nd chance as a negative. Guess they prefer the Netflix "fire on the spot and walked out by security" approach.
From what I have heard on blind, the second chance you just mentioned is pretty much unachievable even if you work over 14 hours a day. Also, many managers don’t give second chance with good intentions because they want to meet their quota as well. Are they not true?
Quota is real. That's why 10% go into focus and the URA target is 6%. This means 40% clear the improvement process. The ones that fail usually just surrender and leave on their own rather than trying to complete the PIP process. I would put money on the fact that out of those who complete the entire PIP process most end up succeeding. The full process: Focus PIP Appeal to committee of peers if you fail If you willing to go through entire procsss chances are you actually want to work at Amazon and just like most companies Amazon likes those who WANT to work there.
Just look at everyone on your team, identify the weakest one, and suck less hard than that person. How hard can it be?
He was laid off recently 😬
Your manager is a weasel. He is supposed to tell you if you ask , if you are on focus. Have a conversation with your skip and explain what you feel is going on
They will invite you to be a PIP VIP
TBH, I don’t see any future here. But don’t wanna simply resign 😐 I wanna get the severance 😬
