Amazon India - Program Manager Non Tech - L5 ( 12 Years Exp )

Dear All I definitely need all your help. I am on my last stages of negotiation with Amazon recruiter, who has been sharing that am on higher end of the L5 spectrum in Amazon for Program Manager role. I have 12 years of experience as of today in Operations, Business Transformations & Product Design and worked with Tata Consultancy Services ( India & UK ) and also with Deloitte USI. MBA - From Tier 2 College ( Bangalore, India ) Program Manager - L5 ( Non tech ) In snapshot: * My current org also pays me 10% variable - so total comp that I withdraw is Fixed+ Variable but Amazon Recruiter is not considering this. Now, I must say I didn't expect to have Amazon come and give such an offer that is same as current and this is definitely not helpful with expectations that I had build in. I would have been frank with Amazon recruiter if they had asked me my expectation ,wwhich was 30% of current fixed pay but this never happened and now am stuck if I should go ahead or not. Am evaluating Amazon from long term knowing the work I am about to do is similar to what I have been doing and excel in it. Any advice, if this is a fair offer and please can you help. #amazonsalary #amazonindia #amazonpm #amazonsalary

Tell them that it doesn’t make sense to get out of your current comfort zone with your current company and move to a fresh environment with the same pay. Tell them that for you to be excited about the opportunity, you need X% on top of your current TC... That’s what I would’ve done

Thank You. Your response is helpful :) Just I don't want to loose the opportunity but also not want to be under appreciated, especially when I know I have already and can make a difference.

Don’t do it. You are being under leveled. L5 is an entry level role for MBAs with 2-3 years of experience. If you are from a premium institute, please try for L6. Since you will be at top of the band, the only lever you will have is to get promoted which is way too political at Amazon. Took me 4.5 years to get from 5 to 6. Much easier to come in at 6 with TC of 40.

Thank You so much. I am from MBA ,Tier 2, India but believe the value that I have made is a lot more. Hence wasn't sure why being given such a low offer. Interview happened for L5 role and reporting to L6, hence not sure if L6 will work out. Recruiter is repetitively mentioning that am on higher band and somewhere tactics is what I don't enjoy.

L6 reporting to L6 is fairly common at Amazon. I had a friend recently join at higher end of L5 with 10 years experience. However, in his case he got a significant hike and was ok with the leveling. L6 will not work out for sure if you were interviewed for L5 but you can try citing your yoe. If you are ok with your current job, don’t come in at L5. Politely decline saying you weren’t aware of the levels and you think you will be a better fit at L6. L6 is a very wide band, goes from 40-80 and is also a terminal level at Amazon so if you come it L6, the upper limit increases a lot.

Even I would suggest L6 for your yoe as L5 is a down level for PM. L5 sde= L6 pm at Amazon so the least I expect you to get is L6

Thank You Riptela - I’ll have to now think this through 😊
