I did my on-site with Amazon for a data scientist role on Friday 2/7. Next Thursday the recruiter reached out to me saying she was "working on confirming my feedback and finding a team." She said another hiring manager wants to setup an informational interview with me. Spoke with the manager on Monday and he said I "understand you interviewed with [OTHER] team and the interview went very well" and then proceeded to tell me about his team. He also asked me a few questions about my work - what models have you built, how did you work with customers, how did you evaluate the impact your models had on business metrics etc. I am still waiting to hear back from the recruiter. Any idea what may be going on? #amazon #datascience #interview
3 business days after onsite
It might mean that you passed the interview portion and they were inclined to hire but something happened with that particular hiring manager's req. Maybe they filled internally or just felt you weren't a good fit for the team. Either way I'd take heart that they are still talking with you. If you didn't make the grade at all they would have said so. Also, what was the level of the position you interviewed for? They may be looking to down level and the original HM really wanted a higher level candidate.
Thanks for the response. It's an L5 role.
Either the role you applied for is filled so they need to find a team who is looking for L5 DS or you did not pass the L5 DS bar and loop leaders decided you are fit for L4 DS. If hiring manager does not want to down level their role recruiter will look for other teams who are will to hire L4 DS. How many yrs of DS experience do you have? I’ve seen L4 with 0-2yrs industry exp. Either returning interns or some with 2yrs but at tier-2 companies and not FAANG
Thank you for the response. I only have one year of experience. Can you share some telltale signs of not passing the L5 bar and potentially being down-levelled? Is this based on the functional aspects of the role or on the behavioral/leadership part?
Techenical depth. Mostly Deliver results/ impact is lacking
How much time Amazon takes to give response? Acceptance/rejection anything?
