I have my first phone interview for a Visual Designer role at Amazon in Seattle next week. I have two questions... 1. What can I expect from the phone interviews? Any tips? I know I need study the leadership principles for the full day interview but are they used much in the phone screens? What types of questions are asked? 2. What base salary and total compensation can someone with 4-5 years design experience expect from them? I'm new to the area so I'm not sure how much I can expect to make in this city in general. At what point in the interview process do they ask about salary requirements or do they just present an offer?
Expect the phone interviews to be pretty standard: tell me about yourself (brief project history), tell me about past design teams/clients (projects where you've collaborated with folks…), what parts of the process you enjoy... Don't forget to ask Qs at the end!
Salary Q: the recruiter typically will ask this, general advice is avoid specific numbers, range is fine to mention... better to just discuss what job level you're targeting.
Thanks! That's helpful.
Make sure you look super Seattle-y
It's a phone interview.
you might get lp related questions. have examples of times you demonstrated the particular lp. whether you get lp related questions in a phone screen is down to the particular team or even the interviewer so it's a bit of a crap shoot in that regard.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
A friend of mine in a VD at Amazon. He got $100k base with a $20k signing bonus. Not sure what he got for RSUs.
Thanks! Do you know how many years of experience he has?
Not total. He was at HTC for few years before that though.
