What is expected Comp for L6 Senior Product Manager - Technical? Is 400K possible? Please advise without taking into account stock growth. I am currently an Senior Software Development Manager with an MBA. 15+ years development experience. 8+ years engineering management experience.
Why do you want to become PM leaving a solid management experience?
I love exploring the "Why and What" and "Thinking Big". I may need to find an SDM gig that will give me the flexibility to do this instead of transitioning to Product Management, if my salary target is imperative.
Sr PM-T will not touch 400k. That is high for an L6 SDM which is higher band. You’re a Sr SDM right now, why not stay on that path an explore L7 SDM at Amazon?
This is definitely something I need to think about. I love exploring the Why and What, hence the reason why I got the MBA. However, I am beginning to realize that I may be better off sticking with the SDM track and looking for an SDM opportunity that will allow me to do a little more product work too. Do you think that is possible at Amazon? I do love your idea of pursuing a L7 SDM instead.
I think Sr. PMT is close to 250K (Seattle)
Thanks for responding trailblzer. I appreciate the feedback.
High-200s is the top. Once you get near 300, you’re actually in the L7 band. 400 would be high for a L7 Principal but within range for Sr Mgr.
Levels.fyi and Paysa are good resources. According to them and posts on here, you'd need to land a principle role for that kind of a salary, not senior.
Yeah. This is what I am beginning realize. I appreciate your feedback!
