What's the total compensation range for Level 7 Principal Product Manager (IC) in AWS? I know it starts at 300k at the lower end. Was wondering whether asking for 425-450k is in the realm of possibility or fantasy. What's a realistic target to shoot for during negotiation for this level? Glassdoor appears no good to discover this.
Not necessarily.
Starts at 250 ish. Can obviously go much higher. 300 seems to be a good target on the way in. There are lots of L7 PMs without direct reports, like me.
How easy/difficult is it to show impact as an L7 IC compared to an L7 who is a people manager?
It’s a big job, but a good manager should be able to scope the role such that delivering on it will show impact. And as an L7, you’re expected to help scope the role. It’s better than being an L65/66 IC at MSFT as an example because I feel like there are comparatively more ICs at L7 in Amazon.
425 is very unrealistic unless you have a very rare skill set. Having said that, odds are good that you’d get to 425 over time based on stock appreciation and additional stock grants.
L7 (IC) ranges from 280-450k. You can totally can get close to 400k. It’s always better to get higher number upfront, Increments are joke even if you get TT (top tier) rating.
Do Principals become Sr. Mgrs automatically once they get reports? If not, how does the change happen?
No. I have seen sr mgr with no direct reports and principal PM’s with big teams. Have even seen a principal PM managing a sr mgr
Can you share your offer details? Did you end up taking it?
What is it for non-tech L7 PM? I heard it’s between 220K-288K, is that correct for non-tech? Seems low
L6 Manager,PM-T 🙋🏾♂️Total comp: 410K
The range starts a lot lower than 300K. 450K is unrealistic as an IC unless you have very specialized skills
L7 should have direct reports, so not an IC, right?
L7 range starts around 250k but on an average, you should be looking at around 350k-375k as gettable. Aim for higher and see what they offer. L7 can be IC but it is much harder to show impact as an IC unless you are a superstar.
