Hey Guys, How's the Amazon Linux and Open Source org? I am thinking to switch to this team. Can you please share some insights if you have any? TC 190k Yoe 5
There’s only about 100 people in our organisation which is minuscule compared to behemoths like Red Hat, Canonical and SUSE. Amazon Linux 2 came out in December 2017 and was originally forked off of CentOS 7. CentOS 8 debuted in September 2019 and Amazon Linux 3 is still nowhere in sight which should give you an indication of how much technical debt we’re in with our current workload maintaining effectively 3 distro releases (1 internal, 2 public). Management was recently overhauled early 2020 and thankfully they’re starting to address this by having a lot more people on the team working on projects to help automate our build and test pipelines aside from the BAU work of security backporting and packaging RPMs. It’s meaningful work, but hard. There’s a lot of smart tenured people on the team, so don’t be surprised if you end up pushing yourself too hard trying to prove yourself while starting out. So if you do end up transferring, good luck!
How are things now, in early 2022? You guys adopting Fedora as upstream seems promising. How is the org and wlb?
What products has Amazon open sourced? Its not AWS linux, Its Amazon Linux
