I do not like Amazon's RSU structure of 5/15/40/40. I know they don't budge much on base. I was thinking of asking them to increase sign on bonus by a good amount even if it means lowering my RSUs. Does it sound possible? Has anyone done it? Does it seem like a good proposition? It is advantageous if I decide to leave after 2 years and not using the remaining RSU. P.S. Do not have an offer yet. So don't have any TC to share. #amazon #negotiate
There's a reason the RSU payout is stacked like that. The average Amazonian only survives 18-24 months before being PIP'd out. Statistically, they will never pay out years 3 and 4.
I am thinking whether to move to Amazon from IBM or not? I have heard the same about Amazon as you mentioned. But at IBM, salary increases are a joke as far as what I have seen. No bonus or RSUs.
I would go for it. The worst is you make some extra cash and then get PIP'd. LOL

If your team does daily standups, your manager is a micromanager
The recruiter can play around with the weight for joining bonus vs RSU to get you to a target TC. I was clearly asked what I preferred more (I told them RSUs as I wanted to stay a 4-5 years) Finally they did have to give a larger joining bonus component as they had a limit on how many RSUs could be given
Thanks for your reply. So they are generally fine with our preference whether we want more sign on or more stocks?
@rockabyeb Doesn't that mean your TC drops after year 2 if stocks don't increase that much? I assumed jb. was given to equate the TC for 4 tears due to back heavy vesting
