Hey Blinders, I recently just got an offer from Amazon as a new grad and i wanted some advice on how to negotiate. So, in the faq they sent out along with the offer, it says that there won’t be any negotiations and for me to consider other companies offer. I have 2 competing offers, but how do i approach this situation? Any advice would be amazing and very helpful!! Thank you in advance :) yoe: 1 TC: 115k #negotiateoffer #offer
If you're a new grad there is no negotiation. You have no leverage. It's about if you want the experience of Amazon or not. They won't waste time going back and forth for someone they're investing more time into then they're get out in the first year. If you don't want it, they'll simply go onto the next person instantly.
A slightly different perspective on this. Not being in faaang in the early part of my career is a big mistake for which I am still trying to pay, so I would recommend negotiating and sticking to amazon. Work for at least 2-3 years and then move on if you still don’t enjoy it. Even to form a perspective imho it will take 2 years.

Hey team, thanks for responding to my post! Could you explain a little bit more about why it's such a big mistake? Is it because it looks good on resume? Etc? I'm also curious as to did you mainly work for smaller/medium companies? Do you feel like you've learned a lot? Thank you so much again for responding!!

If you have competing offers. You can always negotiate. If they say no, then so be it. Start your career out right with one simple fact. Companies need to sell themselves, not you selling yourself to a company. Know your strengths and weaknesses and use them both your advantage. Don’t take it just because it’s Amazon. You may learn much more about the field in a smaller company that will allow you hands on experience in plenty of different areas which early on in your career will be much more beneficial then having “amazon” on the resume.
As far as negotiation. Tell them you have other offers. Explain the range if they’re more and explain why you are considering them. If Amazon isn’t readily available to compete, then they don’t deserve you as an employee. Take the offer that sets you most up for success, and $$ especially early on out of grad school isn’t necessarily the best thing because most of what you learned in school doesn’t translate to on the job everyday requirements or skills. Pick the one you’ll learn the most from even if it’s a little less. **source: me wishing I could tell my 20 year old self that**
Hey team, wow thank you so much for this feedback! So I currently have offers from Amazon, VMware(where I'm currently at, they made me an offer for salary since I graduated), and a smaller aerospace company. I don't know what team I'll be on for Amazon yet, so it's definitely hard to judge how I should weigh this. Any thoughts from either of you? I know that you both mentioned about the learning capacity and technology. From those 3, what do you think would be a better impact for me as an individual coming out of college? Thank you so much again for taking the time to help me!!
