I know all these companies have cut throat culture. But amazon posts here are pip heavy. I see very less posts from FB or Nflx. But users could be less from Nflx or fb in blind. Does this formula sounds right? Amzn > Nflx > fb with rate of piping
Nflx > Amzn > fb
Netflix on the top
As someone that worked at 3 of those companies, I’d say Netflix is more demanding than Amazon and then FB. Although deadlines are more stringent at FB compared to Amazon. Besides it comes down to the teams and not companies. In terms of how hectic work is and PIP culture, Netflix is worse than Amazon and FB. While we see a great many PIP posts from Amazon and FB, do remember that they hire more. Amazon hires way more and basically recruits new grads without much screening. Unlike Google, Amazon follows hire fast and fire fast since it’s a 2 way door decision for them. So you see a lot. Netflix work is fun but the only thing bothering is you’d have to be on top of everything and assume all roles.
I've been at Amazon and now Netflix and find the latter to be less demanding.
Yeah, as I mentioned very team dependent. I definitely found my sister team at Netflix to be nicer. Netflix is way better in terms of toxic culture.
I probably got lucky but I've found neither Amazon nor Netflix to be nearly anywhere as bad as people make it out to be. Amazon was probably a little more demanding though in terms of deadlines. At Netflix, you gotta be good at your job - maybe wear multiple hats, unblock yourself, work more cross functionally etc. but not so much of deadline pressure.
Do you see people not passing keeper test here and there? Or is it less frequent?
Seen more people not passing the keepers test at Netflix than I saw PIPs at Amazon. Some firings have felt umm wierd because although lacking in one area the person was good at the rest and overall seemed alright. Its a little difficult to understand how Netflix fires people. Amazon firing from what I saw was simple. Slackers who hardly contributed anything for a few months got PIPed
We don't PIP at all
Well you just fire, right?
Google?
