Curious how people think of Amazon new grad’s hiring bar. Seems like almost 50% of the graduating class in my school gets an Amazon offer. Don’t get me wrong, I have lots of respect for senior Amazon engineers, they are really good or else Amazon would have already collapsed with that traffic. 4YOE 275k
Its a joke nowadays. You complete an online assessment and get an offer in your inbox. No surprise that the quality of new hires is also going down fast.
This would be true if being good at Leetcode equates to being a good software eng
If you went to a target CS school, especially those in California, most interns get offers just by attending an Amazon session and being asked a few basic questions on the spot after
Most get pipped soon, if they ain't any good. So essentially the real interview starts when they join. Hire the best, Fire the rest!
As a new grad just a few years ago, my final round interview question with Amazon was “balancing parentheses” lol
I don’t think solving a hard question equates to being good at software development
I have no idea what you’re talking about
Wow And the hiring bar in india is very high right now
Why wouldn’t it be when everyone and their mom study CS?
They ask very easy questions in India too.
Seems like even Amazonian think it’s a really low bar for new grads. Curious why these new grad starts to gloat and starts telling people how to prepare for interviews when they only have an Amazon offer. I am guessing most people think Amazon is really hard to get in as a new grad?
Amazon seems fascinating as a new grad and they think that they have achieved just so much and start advicing about FAANG lol
This is what I thought.
Amazon hired a few friends of mine who didn’t know how to code. They googled the first round questions and they were asked to just explain those solutions in on-site round .. lol
New grad is just to keep the wheels turning (KTLO basically) If you can survive the crappy beginning then I think you're set up well for Amazon. In general, I think Amazon is a lot better for senior engineers (L6 and above). Everything below that kinda just sucks. But it's good for resume padding.
The new grad hiring bar is a lot lower than for external industry hires. There's an idea of students being a good bet for bringing in promising new engineers who are likely to grow. Amazon's a pretty good place for that if you have the right mentality and a good team, and a lot of companies like to hire engineers with a few years of experience at Amazon.
Like which team?
