OLR is the meetings/process to decide the stack ranking. It's like the world cup is to OLR as the final tournament results is to stack ranking - one is the process the other is the result.

Yes it is stack ranking. Every company has stack ranking (they have to, there’s only so many promotions and budget to be distributed). Some companies play saint and name/market their performance reviews differently, but there’s no way around stack ranking. It’s human nature to compare peers - you can’t change human nature.
The issue isn’t stacked ranking… it is the forced attrition of lowest ranked.
When are employees going to find out if they're LE this year after OLR?
Relating my exp of OLR during AWS time. sr manager asked us (SDMs) to prepare a detailed list of assessments against the new points system on the Ivy tool for discussions during OLR meetings. Yes, the engineers might have collected feedbacks from others, but those hardly matters. During the meetings, we would discuss each candidate and basically come to a conclusion on what to assign a particular reportee. During the discussion, Sr. manager, Sr Engg/principal engg will have the final say no matter what. Least Effective (LE) are the ones to be put on Coaching followed by PiP. There might not be a coaching plan, if they want to reduce budget quickly. During this meeting, Sr Manager/ Sr Engg will assess the SDM if they are in-line or not. This is very important for the Sr Manager/Sr Engg to keep their own job. The HR process was being revised to PIP candidates out quickly. On one side they will layoff and on the other side, the PiP quota is pretty high, and they will make sure the separation is quick not time consuming.
How can I determine my ranking based on PCS? I got a 3% raise and some stock refresher. My TC will go up slightly this year but will go down next year unless I get more stick then. I think I am a HV1 but not sure.
This year, you're probably TT. HV1 would get nothing, and usually gets nothing.
Rating system of every Company is stack ranking. Call it by any name. What’s new here ?
