Got the RTO email yesterday, as did most others at the company who haven't RTO'd. Spoke with my leadership and I have 30 days to make a decision. Then the clock starts for 60 days, after the 30 day period, to either 1. voluntarily resign, 2. find another team, or 3. RTO. I also got wind that Amazon will likely come at us with a document to sign that will force us to "voluntarily resign" if we don't comply. I can imagine that after the 30 days is up and we need to make a decision, that is when HR will have us sign the doc. This is Amazon's effort to try to force us to resign without firing us and giving us severance or a chance to get Unemployment. TC: ~280k
What's your current and office locations?
Greater Seattle Area
If your office is in the same city then RTO is worth to avoid all the issues, and keep looking for remote job.
I hope Enough people do this. We have more power than we think we do.
Too many bootlickers to pull this off
The petition against rto was 20k strong, and HR laughed at it.
It took a global pandemic to shake us out of our 1950s mindset about work, but the inertia working against this WFH evolution is strong. Lots or greed-driven,anti-employee rationale is driving us backwards. Sad commentary on our culture
For 2 years employees had power and this is the employers taking it back as forcefully as possible
Lot of employees here on blind simping for rto too
Give me your job ?
I’ve been there, you don’t want it
They can fire you without severance for not showing up at the designated workplace. Washington State is an at-will state.
Yeah, but firing you because they changed the terms of employment and required you to show up at an office hundreds or thousands of miles away from your previously approved location can still get you unemployment.
If OP was employed as FTE without remote specification, then there is no term change.
Just curious what's stopping you to go back to office?
I don't live near Seattle. I live in Central WA. Moved in 2021 and was told that I could stay remote, but it was never changed in the system.. It would take hours to get to the office each way.
Did you get it in writing? Lots of people are in this situation. Remember that employers are whimsical with their policies.
You'll be promoted to customer!
I’d never voluntarily resign. Make them fire you if you don’t want to go back. They cannot force you to sign anything.
I have zero intention of signing this document. I'd like legal assistance on how to handle it though. Recommendations welcomed!
Great idea - there are thousands of people who are open to Hybrid/RTO. Let them take your job. Win win.
Don’t sign anything you don’t like. Believe it or not, they cannot force you.
