Amazon SDE2 rejected
Interviewed for SDE2 at amazon, got rejected. looking back, i probably should’ve interviewed for SDE1. Interview process was good and i thought i did fine in the interview. Felt like it could go either way. I was hoping to get a SDE1 offer out of it. The team works on some HR systems. Pretty bummed, but life goes on. It was the first time i took a FAANG interview, so its good practice. Even though the results werent what i wanted, im very thankful for the blind community for helping me prepare. kinda sucks to go so far in the process and get no feedback 🤷♂️ TC: 135k YOE: 2
In debrief they normally discuss if downleveling to L4. Try again in 6 months.
Is the cooldown only 6 mo? I was seeing 24 somewhere else
Any insight into what the debrief is like? How many days after on-site do they schedule them and how does the conversation go? Is it one of those cases where one loud person decides how the conversation goes or does everyone talk?
Your case must have been discussed for sde1 probably you did not met the bar for sde1
Yeah probably, but I like to think I pass the SDE1 bar, but I guess not lol 🤷♂️
Its better to know the truth and prepare for it next time

You’ll find somewhere better I’m sure 😄 sounds like not that exciting of a role anyhow
Don't be disheartened and try again in 6 months. You already have 2 years of experience so aim for SDE-II and don't settle for SDE-I. Once you join as SDE-I, you will struggle for atleast 1.5 years to get promoted which is not worth.

Update: The recruiter got back to me and told me that based on my reviews I could be considered for SDE1 roles and she will float my resume around, but the team that rejected me is looking specifically for SDE2+. So I guess that hurts a little less 🤷♂️

I think if they felt you were good enough for SDE1, they would have probably down levelled you How well did you code during the interviews?
First one, solved pretty quickly with no hints Second one, needed a hint to figure it out and didn’t finish the code, but would’ve in a couple minutes. Third one was a kinda weird OOP one and I thought I did fine but didn’t really know what they were looking for. System design round went decent(I thought). So yeah who knows. You may be right, but I just hope you aren’t lol
In hindsight, do you think you solved the first problem? Sometimes candidates feel confident and go on to write code without discussing and end up making mistakes! Such candidates usually aren't given any feedback about the way they solved after doing the coding
