I have two offers - Senior Technical Program Manager at AWS (Chicago – home location) and Senior Product Manager at Workday (Boulder – relocation) with similar TC. Long term, I am interested in growing a career in Product Management. Because of that and the WLB, I am inclined towards Workday. However, unable to ignore the brand value and scale that Amazon offers but at the same time not sure if TPM will allow me exposure in product management at AWS. What would you choose and why? Please share your reasons in comments. Thanks! #pm #product #productmanager #tpm #amazon #workday #aws #technicalprogrammanager
Workday PMs run the company. Pay is same as SWE which is rare in most tech companies where PM gets less than SWE. It’s going to be a traditional Pm role so if you want PM - please don’t go to TPM you’re going to slow down your career and may get PIPed at AWS. There is no PIP in workday Did your recruiter mention the new 10% cash bonus? Also keep in mind P4 levels get 90-130k in refreshers every year whereas AWS has none.
Thank you so much for sharing those insights! Can I DM you to learn more?
Sure dm me. Don’t go to amazon!
Also I’m currently a P4 PM at workday and have no trouble getting Senior/staff product manager interviews at fang and pre IPO startups - may be close to a few offers soon
P4 ok in workday regarded as staff Pm in job tittle?
Workday bands are very wide and pay in general is pretty lousy compared to our counter parts . We have this shit role role called inbound pm which is basically just TPM. But I am hearing some amazing offers for new hires
Voted. Have heard workday to be one of the best places in terms of wlb & the culture . What’s the TC offered for these roles ?
wlb and culture are way overrated here! You will be amazed if I tell you how Workday gets its “obvious” high ranking in those surveys.
What are the actual offers?
is workday still hiring pm? i have 1 yoe as apm and 1yoe as a BA
Sure, dm me
dm'ed
Interesting, they don’t hire internal candidates with no prior PM experience in PM roles but okay to hire from outside. You understand the culture now.
Well said!
Go to Workday in Boulder. Living there is another selling point that no one has mentioned. Great WLB, decent pay, wake up in lovely location daily vs brand name. You make the call.
What was the interview experience like for PM at workday ? If you are interested in PM and strategy you should take up the workday role. A lot of places won’t consider you for product management roles if you are not one already . Getting the title is important
The process on Exponent is very close to what i went through. Overall the experience was great.
