I think the pressure of attracting talent while other tech companies are offering remote / hybrid model has motivated Amazon to offer the same. https://www.geekwire.com/2021/amazon-adjusts-return-office-guidance-says-employees-can-work-two-days-week-remotely/ Do you think this would resolve some of the issues around hiring challenges or no? How does the 3 +2 model stack up against what other companies are offering?!
Sure, a different company does it, it's progressive. If Amazon does it, it's bending the knee! Tbh I think all companies are "bending the knee"!
Well the other companies read the room and made a decision to do hybrid/remote. Amazon said “come back to the office” and assumed they’d have all the leverage. Now they’re walking it back.
To be fair, Amazon was saying stuff but it was never mandatory. Just a guidance.
Other than that, 4 weeks remote allowed for Corp employees every year.
Domestic remote. Enjoy working from Hawaii though.
Or say that you are in Hawaii and stay at home. Redecorating my home office to Hawaii theme
rofl itll slowly snowball into full WFH everywhere as companies compete for talent...
Wishful thinking. Majority are requiring mostly back to office
This will happen to some extent. I already see the pressure being laid on at match group (tinder et al) with lots of eng leaving to companies that are allowing full remote with better pay. No brainer.
I’m just wondering if this is only for a transitional period OR if it is a permanent guidance.
I think it's permanent
I think they will adjust back when they do have chances. Too many previous statement on “We work better in the office!”
Something not tracked in this article is that the decision on how often you go in is up to your org, this isn't a company wide thing mandated but more a heavy suggestion. They even federated the choice for orgs to pick how, when, and consistency of wfh
Yeah I mean a warehouse picker probably isn’t going to work from home two days a week
I can tell you my orgs probably going to be fairly relaxed about it all. If you’re good and doing good and you have your reasons for wanting to stay home more than 3+2 they will accommodate. I also don’t think they’ll care if your take your 1 month WFH out of US because everything is in VPN anyways.
Taking it out of the US is banned because of tax implications. For example there are very strict processes for working in Canada (you have to be in certain cost centers etc).
Correct. Outside the US will be a problem for tax reasons
2 days a week to attend any interviews if you want to. yummy.
It has to be full remote to have advantage.
Yea so you can work from home country right…
Lol if I work from home country or space or from road. Why the hell you or anyone should care as long as work is getting done.
I thought Amazon already has 5+2 model
Hahaha good one

I think majority of the companies are going 3+2 model. The only companies which give you option of full remote has upper hand at this time. -P.s: I would never work again at Amazon even if they go full remote. Worst experience ever.
Worked more hours remote during covid than in office at Amazon, they can fuck you up even if remote
How's life at Niantic these days? (Work itself/wlb/pay) I haven't thought about it since the Pokemon go craze.
