Amazon compensation sdeI, sdeII
I just talked to recruiter from Amazon they will move forward with the offer this week, we will talk about the numbers soon how much should I ask or how should I ask ? I have MS degree from Ivy league with 2 years of Experience. I am not sure if they placed me for sde I or sde II. What are the strategies I can bring up in my conversations ? I am very very relaxed at IBM, if the pay difference is not too high I do not plan on changing. I am currently Band 7 with $140k at IBM. If they pay $170k total comp, it will not worth for me to change for $30k after taxes that's $1.5k/month What do you guys think ? I need to get $200k minimum to be able to feel comfortable accepting the offer. This is for NYC location.

IBM is miles ahead of Amazon obv. Been hearing so much about IBM crossing $1 trillion mark while small companies like Amazon struggle ^ sarcasm in case that was unclear. It was mostly because your post sounded entitled af. But just to give you a data point, I recently got offer for sde1 at Seattle Amazon. Was ~$160k tc including base, signon, and stock- stock is only paid out 5% year 1. hiring manager said it was on upper end of sde1 but ymmv. Sde2 I've heard is > $200k Levelling is heavily dependent on interview performance (I did pretty shit). But with your ivy league degree surely you deserve it π

If they place you on SDE 2, you generally can get 200k at least unless they low ball you. If they place you on SDE 1, it is very hard to get more than 170k even if you have compete offer.
Also, 30k is absolutely not worth it because the working time in Amazon may be triple compared to in IBM I guess. If you really care about relaxing, why bother Amazon? Go to other places.
