I just joined Amazon recently. The virtual onboarding has been tough. I barely know any of my teammates, hard to get help. I feel like I am not making any contribution and it is stressing me out a little. I am getting worried especially after reading about all the pip stories.
sorry to hear you’re dealing with that :( Amazon onboarding is already not great so i can only imagine how bad it is now. Have you brought this up with your manager?
I didn’t want to sound like a complaining person or someone not able to work individually :( so I haven’t said anything
I see. Maybe it’s worth bringing it up with your manager and just mentioning you’d be interested in a mentor to help with your growth? Also, you’re supposed to be assigned a specific onboarding buddy who has the responsibility of getting you ramped up. Are they not doing anything? Btw, obviously there’s a line between asking for help when needed and being a complainer, but some times your team won’t know you need help if you stay silent!
just join a month. My team helped by scheduling 1:1 with every people in the team. guiced-up@ guy is right. Turning camera on will make better personal connections. It gave a little boost, but I am still dumb as %^** at the moment 😭
I mentioned to my manager about doing 1:1 with everyone, but my manager said that might be too overwhelming for some reasons
Has Amazon changed over years, I heard culture is not that bad as earlier, is it true ? Sr folks please answer this

Reach out to many people in your team. Have regular meetings with them. Don’t get jaded by bs on Blind. You will be fine.
Get a camera and use it on every Chime call. Makes a world of difference for day to day interaction with your teammates.
My team doesn’t use camera at all. Feels awkward to be the only one open camera. I think a lot of people on the team are relatively new, we had a virtual team hangout at one point, it was very silent.
