I interviewed with Amazon for SDE L6 role in Bay Area a couple of weeks back and the feedback came back very strong. I had a call with the recruiter and as usual I was asked about my comp expectations. I told them my current TC ($430K) including base, bonus and equity and expected 10% higher. The recruiter didn’t seem surprised and said they would have to work a little hard for that expected comp and asked me if I would be open to chat with the hiring manager again which I agreed. On our call, the hiring manager seemed excited about my interview performance and told me that I have to make a decision soon since his pipeline is pretty solid. I agreed that I can make a decision as soon as we can agree on the compensation and start date. This chat happened 5 days after my interview. Since then I have not heard back from the recruiter (I have been asked by friends who work at Amazon to not make the first move as I might come across as desperate and loose negotiation power). #amazon people or anyone who had similar experience with Amazon moving so slow? I thought Amazon moves fast with recruiting especially in Bay Area where people have multiple offers. I have cleared other FAANG interviews as well and waiting for the offers from at least 2 of them. Thanks for reading and hopefully I can get some advice on what should I do now?
I wouldn’t play that card, not if the original role was L6. And if the HM was L7 (assuming) he would have been more than happy to pay you. Push for the $$ you deserve but trying for L7 when you applied for L6 role won’t work.
they are trying to get that out of band approval for you.
That's way above the L6 pay band. They'd have to get a bunch of approvals to match. If they're able to get someone else already in the pipeline that would be way easier for them
Follow up. Pipeline of people expecting less is strong.
Can I negotiate for L7 role given the interview feedback?
