innovation
As a consumer and investor I love Amazon. As a tech worker, I would never ever work there.
But then by investment you are causing that miserable working condition to grow isn't it? Would you invest in Uber knowing what they're doing to their tech employees in this forum? knowing that your investment will probably increase their headcount by 1? /s
of course, getting weathy of other's hard work is the most american thing since apple pie.
I would say, in terms of innovation that's about building the bricks, no, but innovation that uses the bricks, probably yes. Comparing these companies is hard though. Pure software has very large profit margins, and Amazon didn't have that. However Amazon knows how to fine tune the small margins extremely well. It's less creative building smaller pieces, but very good at combining them.
In terms of suicidal employees, yes, you bet!
Agree - AMZN has been a great investment for money, probably not for career. The best decision in hindsight would be to get a job at Google or Facebook, not Amazon, in 2013; and invest savings plus sell all vested stock to invest in AMZN instead.
