Amazon linux laptop

Hi all, joining AMZN as AS soon and my only options for laptop are Mac/Windows (but hate Macs so probably go with windows). Is it possible to get Linux/Ubuntu natively installed with corp stuff or am I stuck just using Windows? TC $290k #amazon #amazonaws

Stick with Mac, instead of windows :)

Why?

Lot of internal tooling just doesn't work well with windows and since most people use Mac there iare better resources- wikis, answers on internal forums etc. I was exactly like you when I joined as an AS. It's okay you get used to Mac pretty soon.

You're stuck with Windows

You can most definitely image your laptop with Linux. I did it.

Yes, you can order a laptop later with Ubuntu with manager approval. There are steps to also reflash your windows with corporate Ubuntu image

I used to be a hard core linux user. My options were mac and windows. Trust me get a mac, everything at amazon / resources is mac focused. Honestly the switch wasn’t too bad. I actually prefer mac for my programming now. Terminal is basically the same commands btw so you’ll get used to it very fast. Believe me, my co worker who joined the same time as me, chose linux and regrets it

Not sure what you mean by "resources are mac focused". If anything, they're UNIX oriented which both Linux and Macs are. I've been using Ubuntu for the past year and I've never thought to myself "man I wish I had a Mac now".

Once you go Mac you never go back 😉

Get a Mac. If you can't live without Ubuntu, just install a vm.

Use windows! It just rocks and get ready to get some rocks.

Go with Mac. Most tooling is well supported on Mac and there’s no huge difference with Linux if you’re mostly on terminal. They give you an M1 Pro so which is quite sufficient even for heavy users
