Apparently a bunch of returning interns to Amazon are pissed. They were told repeatedly that if they accepted their offer quickly they would have the chance to go for other teams and not have to go back to their old teams. Now a bunch of interns are being told they have no choice but to go back to their old teams regardless of what they preferred. Some people I know just got fucked by this since they hadn't interviewed elsewhere and just laid back after signing. Sounds pretty fucked up Amazon.
You can switch as soon as you join. What's the problem here? In fact it'd be better to wait until your ft because you can search the internal job search tool for the best position and talk to people on the team
This isn't true as far as I know. Employees tell me they have to stay a year and even then managers can block their movement or they'll be forced to interview again for other teams. I think it's a rare case for any company to allow early team changes if they assign you a team.
If they could switch right after joining why not just let them select a team or even choose not to be on their old team? Sounds like unnecessary headache for Amazon if they really did let you move right after starting and being assigned.
Microsoft did this shit to me except I wanted to go back to my old team and instead they placed me somewhere random. It always shocks me when young kids say all they want to do is work for a big mega corp.
That's why I steer new grads to choose FB. Not as massive as the other big 4 and you get to choose your team mostly. I would hate it if I was promised "you won't be put on this team", accept, then get fucked.
That and my own biases of course
I bet they can explain this shit with their 14 leadership principles.
Oh come on bro, not the 14 leadership principles
Slow your role google. Your company did this exact thing earlier this year when they over hired L3s and forced allocations.
I’m so glad I didn’t intern at Amazon. This is fucked up on all levels.
Because going back to the team that hired you is so horrible????? Kooky.
Yes if you don’t want to go back. Now scram asshole.
If these people did not get it in writing, they're naive.
It is a good lesson to learn on your first job than when you are old and discriminated against.
Amzn mistreating employees?! Call the presses this needs to be a story...wait it already has, year after year, after year.
Yes, my mentee got burnt this way. He wanted to join another office (not loving Seattle). Recruiting initially told him it is fine, but now is telling him that he needs to accept the offer quickly in order to be matched to another team. The latest news I heard is that he will have to go back to his old team (in Seattle). That is completely fucked up.
Well I hope you were able to soothe him back to sleep.
Consider it as a intended technique to piss interns off, from returning. Apparently they get an unexpected amount of accepted offers. Doubt they are in any appitite to take in more.
Fresh meat. They'll get over it.
They will, well some are leaving, I just hope no one else gets fooled by this. I don't think they straight up knew they lied but pretty shady mishandling of interns that I think any other college student should think about if they're year three or above and considering interning there.
Things like these don't really male a difference at the macro level, and/or is impossible to measure so management might just not give a shit. I do hope for your sake someone at amazon hr takes notice, cause the goal of new employees is to make them continue to drink the kool aid for as long as you're not burnt out for the 4th time. And this ain't starting with Kool Aid at all. As a "huge" Amazon shareholder I hope you do good work. Be good boys and girls. Work hard. Max out your 401ks right away.
