Hi guys, this is my first post on blind. I come from a lower middle-class family. I have been trying to score a good job so that I can provide them. I have been doing non-stop leetcode for 3 months. I applied for new grad role in amazon on July 27th. People who have applied a week ago are getting OA. I am very tensed and depressed. My application status is still "Application submitted". Kindly someone help me, please. I don't know who to speak to and share my sadness. I tried reaching around 50-60 on LinkedIn regarding this. Only 2 people replied saying they only hire 4+years experienced, all the new grad applications are handled by amazon university. Please help me guys. I can't take this anymore. Not anymore. All my friends and classmates are getting good job offers with decent pay. I don't know what to do. Every day when I see an amazon post in leetcode or blind. It is killing me piece by piece. :'( Job Role: Software Development Engineer - 2021 (United States) Job ID: 1204412 Location: Seattle, Washington edit: In amazon jobs portal, the application is showing as a draft and in amazon university, it is showing as application submitted. When I click on "complete application" in jobs portal, it just redirects to amazonuniversity where it shows application submitted. I think it has something to do with this. I don't know man...... I did everything right. started preparing from months ago. Applied immediately when I saw the job. Tried to reach every recruiter I can find on LinkedIn. I tried to do everything right, every little detail. Why is this happening to me :'( YOE - 2 TC - 50k #engineering #software #swe #newgrad #amazon #referral #depression
You probably need a referral. There are literally thousands of applications coming in and the recruiters will only open a small subset of them. Why Amazon btw? Did you apply to other places as well?
I only have 2-3 months of leetcode experience. Since, I had lesser time, I was concentrating on getting a job at amazon because it is the easiest fang anyone can get into. It has 3 OA and if all three go very good, then its just one on-site, that too logic and approach explanation of your OA's. I applied for Microsoft, google, and FB. Dint get any response and people on blind are saying that they are on hiring freeze.
Widen your net to all other tech companies, don't just stick to FAANG. Luck plays a big role. Many people were rejected by Amazon but got offered at Google/Facebook. That said, for new grad, referral is much more important to get 1 foot into the door. You could open another Blind thread to ask for referral. Many will be willing to help.
Getting multiple referrals and applying to more than one roles helped me to get interview. Apply to as many roles as possible
I know no one to ask a referral from. I have been cold applying a lot. I wanted to get into amazon because it is the easiest fang and plays well.
Have a decent resume and reach out to people who posted about vacancies in amazon. I got almost 6 referrals and I donβt know any of them personally. Just use search feature in linkedin
I work for amazon in eu and would kill to swap jobs with you and be in the us. Be grateful for what you have
Dude relax. You didn't get rejected. Amazon sends out their OAs in batches
You donβt need a referral to get the OA, pretty much everyone gets it. Did you check all the requirement boxes correctly? Ex didnβt interview with Amazon in past 6 months, still in school / graduated within last year
Yes, I did do that. I also posted on rooftopslushie for a referral.
If you want DM me your resume and I can let you know if thereβs any issues, but like the other person said itβs most likely because Amazon sends in batches
I am a rookie but when you say "I can't take this anymore", it just sounds destructive. I graduated not long ago so I can understand little bit, but I feel like you need a take it little easier. Also, this is a little tough time for everybody especially for non gc/citizen. After COVID calms down, maybe things will be better. Matter of fact, I used to be somewhat on your situation long back, but you are panicking way more than I did
You are right, I should take it easy. I will.
I suggest you get your resume reviewed. Your resume has less than 7 seconds to impress. Make sure it is impressive. One pro tip - If your resume is 2 pages it is way too long. Trim it to fit in 1 page. No exceptions.
Not a big deal, even i have not recieved OA. I applied through referral during same time
π Bro relax

Hang in there dude. This too shall pass.
I am trying so hard to stay sane. I can not afford to lose this opportunity. I am an indian, away from home, friends, family, spending thousands of dollars in education loan, not knowing when trump might kick us out. Its just sad man, just sad. But, I will stay sane, I will, for my family
