Line manager here. Would Amazon pose non-compete if I casually messaged past team members after I leave? How long to wait before non compete expires (12 months?)#
It’s a violation of the non compete.
To message peers or only past direct reports ?
Sorry wait. Does your non compete have a non solicit?
OP doesn’t even know what a non compete is….
I think it does violate the non-compete if you are not in California, but having said that there are many many examples where literally a team joined the manager in the new company. They seem to be ok doing this even at L10.
If you’re in California, non-competes are unenforceable. If you’re stealing IP, you already know it’s illegal. If you’re really concerned, don’t listen to any of us and speak to a lawyer.
Read your contract. This falls under non solicitation not non compete
Ok
Non solicit is 18 months. So just don’t reach out in writing in person. Recruiters at your new company can still contact them, that’s not breaking your non-solicit. Non compete is completely different
Thanks! Sounds good

Why is Bay Area terribly dressed?
Unless you are an L8 and above or worked on a very confidential project, Amazon won’t bother you on this.
If I end up hiring a past teammate why wouldn’t the Amazon team manager go after me?
You mean L6 folks that reported to you? Like I said, Amazon has bigger fish to fry. Neither you nor that person you want to poach are that important unless in rare circumstances. Even then only you cannot directly contact them, your new company’s recruiter or another HM can.
