Hello Blind I wanted to get Blind input on working at Amazon. I currently live in LA working at Northrop Grumman as a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer with 5 yoe . Finished my masters this year in comp sci. Amazon #seattle Would this title of System development engineer title make it harder for me to get a software title job later ? How is it like to work in AMZN compare to a defense company? This is a cleared job. I want to settle down in LA as my final destination, so how hard is it to move with in Amazon to a location in LA? The recruiter made it sound like that they are giving me top money for L4 and there is no room for negotiation. Is it still possible to negotiate? I have offer from Raytheon and Blue, but both are less then Amazon. System Development Engineer L4 Seattle location 1st year TC 201K 2nd year TC 203k #amazon #amazonaws

It's great. Go to the bay instead of LA because you'll get paid more and have more opportunities. Switch to SDE as soon as possible, you'll be paid a lot more at L6+. Don't know the bands for sysdev, but L4 SDE in the bay taps out at around 260.

Per the original recruiter, the pay band for software and system engineer is exactly the same. How easy is it to switch positions with in Amazon? How is that 260 split? They currently offered me 155 base 42k on sign on and rest RSU for first year is like 4k. What could I negotiate on?

It is absolutely 100% not the same. It is likely fairly close at L4, but the gap becomes huge by L6. Like 6 figures huge. You can really only negotiate on pay, and even that not by much. It isn't hard to find L4s.
