just got an offer for a senior PM role at amazon but i am not sure whether to take it up or not right now. i know in G the offer remains valid up to 1 year ( if the position doesnt get filled). Is it the same case with amazon? or does the offer expire as soon as you decline and you have to interview again?
You don't want to accept a year old offer because you're likely to miss a lot on the initial RSU grant as the stock price is likely to increase.
Lol now 😀
Geez... Stay at Google
It’s funny how the first reaction to joining amazon is always negative. Is it really that bad?? In any case the reason why I am considering is that it’s a PM role and currently I am a L5 program manager. Also this role is in Dubai (souq.com/payfort which is now amazon.ae). Thinking of Dubai move for personal reasons
2 cents: don’t join Amazon. L6 ( so called senior PM) dime a dozen. Fresh business grad gets L6 offer.
It will be valid for 6 months and you can get in with out interviews loops. You can re-negotiate as well. I did exactly that
Why my hr asked me to make a decision in 3 days....
Cool! Thanks for the info!! I am guessing the caveat is it will remain valid for 6 months unless they fill that position, is that correct?
Don’t leave google, by the way what role do you have at Google? I’m l6 pm at amazon and it blows. I thought this was a “senior” role however ppl are right on here. I have 13 years of exp and feel dumb joining at l6 level. New mba grads are at my same level and it’s embarrassing. Not sure how amazon lets most of these ppl in with no experience. Yea some went to Harvard but are dumb as shit with no real world experience.
The only reason I am considering is because it’s a PM role and currently I am a L5 program manager at google. It is surprising though that L6 is called senior then when they hire straight out of B school. My understanding was that amazon L6 PM is equal to L5 google PM. Is that not the case?
It is but amazons bar for hiring is all over the place. I’m l6 with 10+ years but have come across folks who interned then got full offer at l6... Also working with many new grads and high turn is a constant fire drill. Wait till you read the docs ppl produce, they are awful and can’t believe most ppl don’t have any pride in their work. I know we should focus on content, but it takes only a few minutes to format and spell check. Leadership doesn’t care and almost everyone lives in constant chaos. It’s not a long term place to stay. I’m actually trying to move to google so there are some sense of standards
You are not upleveling from Google L5 to a L6 at Amazon. Stay at Google and try to switch ladders - you might be downleveled to a 4 but your TC doesn't go down. I think its worth it having gone thru it personally. It will be a culture shock coming from Google to Amazon. And how much of a TC bump are you getting?
I did try the ladder interview switch recently but wasn’t successful. They told me that I can try again in 6 months Also the senior PM role I got is in amazon Dubai office (souq.com/payfort) that became amazon.ae . Because of no tax in Dubai I’ll get a bump of around $23k . Plus cost of living in Dubai is less than NY (where I am right now)
Ok. Dubai will give you a good quality of life and plenty of savings too. But do keep in mind that WLB at Amazon there is dismal (based on a number of people I know). And the culture is very much like working in Amazon India - fairly aggressive and long hours with almost no respect for your weekends.
Did you try switching ladders at google ? Is switching ladders not encouraged at google ?
I did recently but wasn’t successful. They told me to try again after 6 months
So, even within google , if you aren’t successful in switching , there is a cool-off period ? Are the internal transfer interviews the same in number, intensity , and content like the external interviews ?
L6 PM is a verrry wide band, like L5 SDE. Fresh MBA grads who spent 2 years in consulting before B school to 20 YOE industry veterans. L7 PMs or PM managers work in conjunction with Sr. SDMs and directors to make real product decisions and L6 PM/PM-Ts crank out PRFAQs, risk reviews, BRDs and other docs draft after draft, do tactical GTM work, and gather/track metrics.
This is very accurate. I crank out docs all week
I am interviewing for Principal Product Manager-Tech, I think it would be at L7? I asked for 200k base for 8 yoe and NYC. Should I stick to it or change it later in the process?
Amazons base doesn’t go that high
Why tf you wanna join Amazon leaving Google!
TC and Level bump
yeah join informatica instead they have the best devs
