I have 2 YOE. I want to aim for SDE II, recruiter didn't really mention level yet. Do I ping my recruiter before the onsite about this? Or does it all depend on interview performance? And if so - would I have to be really strong on a design interview to get SDE II? Or do the interview loops differ between SDE I and II? Ideally aiming for $150k TC or above to justify moving to Seattle, not sure if that can only be done with SDE II

Trying just got no response from the new recruiter who I was traded off to
Most likely SDE 1 unless you do super well on interviews
I got an offer at $167k TC for SDE 1 so you can definitely get more than 150
Ah then I wouldn't worry about leveling if I could get that. No garuantee I can but ya
My guess is the vast majority of open roles are for at least SDE II, because SDE Is are usually coming in as interns first. Sometimes if you do OK but not great on an SDE II interview but are otherwise a good fit you'll get an offer at SDE I.
Ohh that makes sense! Thank you
I’d assume SDE1. But for an industry hire with 2 YOE you should still be able to exceed $150k and get to sde2 within 18mos.
You have to confirm it before the on site. I convinced them to interview me for SDE2 with 2 yoe. But later got a sde1 offer of 167K because I didn’t do great on the sys design. Dm me I can give you more details.
Recruiter wont reveal. You should have asked on phone interview with manager or whosoever took it. Best case is to share JD with a amazon employee to check
I had no phone interview minus just one with a recruiter, I forgot to ask
Recruiter told me. I negotiated to a higher level.
BS. As a BR who has done hundreds of amazon interviews I can tell you it’s impossible to negotiate level, regardless of a recruiter led you to believe that.
Yeah, you’re wrong. I had extra leverage, but it did happen. Maybe it’s just uncommon.
When I interviewed (2.5 YoE), I specifically asked the recruiter and they told me SDE II. There was 1 system design interview but wasn't hard. It was a straightforward question with follow up modifications. (My Uber L4 / Google L5 system design interviews were much harder). Finally, got a 230k offer but the interviews went extremely well.

I appeared for on-site last week. The recruiter didn't mention the level for me either but did sent JD. Copy pasted part of it on Google and got redirected to Amazon.jobs with exact JD with details about Amazon internal team ID be working with and the level.
What is jd?
