Offer from both: Amazon (not AWS) estimated comp ~310k (sysdev L5) Blackstone ~280k base and bonus, no RSUs Amazon is more remote friendly though has a reputation (perhaps overblown). Blackstone requires 3 days a week in office and maybe better WLB. Thoughts?
What role?
Sysdev L5
WLB is very team dependent, personally 3 days in office would be dealbreaker
Amazon is extremely team dependent. Ask to speak to senior people who have been on the teams for a while. Ask them about policies and WLB
Avoid amazon
why?
Amazon pip you for any reason. Apart from bad wlb balance causing mental problems too. You would want to avoid it in the time of recession
what if Blakcstone exceeds Amazons offer.. if I ask for counter..?
Blackstone WLB is no better. Managers can be micromanagers depending upon team. What position are they bringing you in at
What position at BX? VP?
Amazon though it’s remote friendly is known to have terrible work life balance. The compensation difference is not much. You can always shift to Amazon in later years although Amazon as a brand will help you more if you are in tech.
Super team dependent. If the Amazon team is toxic stay far far away. But there’s a decent number of normal to chill teams outside AWS
