What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Asking this on behalf of a friend. He's a masters student in US and has received summer SDE intern offers from Amazon and PayPal. Amazon offer is for Austin location and PayPal is for San Jose. He is not sure which one should he go ahead with considering the current layoff situations in the market. His main concern is getting the return offer but recently Amazon postponed many return offers for 6 months and that put so many international students in bad position now. Is it worth taking the risk and join Amazon right now or he should settle for less TC at PayPal? My TC : 0 (I'm student as well) (Edit: added the poll) #internship #amazon #paypal
Amazon
Amazon
Amazon, although I don't know about location as i am Indian. From org point of view, go with Amazon. Reason: 1) network network network. Once you graduate, and if you networked well you'll find Amazonians spread out in industry, referral part will be very easy in future. 2) Regarding offer, PP is in cost cutting mode for hcol(specially SJ) and usually is expanding on lcol(India and Singapore) so chances of getting offer is very less. Telling you this because I have worked for PP.
^ this. Spot on!
Both companies have toxic culture but PayPal is industry leading in that area 😂.
No. PayPal is better if you want to coast. Not a good place for an intern.
Amz
If I were your friend, I'd just took both offers and wait till the start date. We don't know whos gonna rescind their offer.
Currently, my friend has accepted both the offers(he got both offers in October 2022). But now in near future he has to choose one.
Layoff at Amazon started. I just switched job, but the intern who did internship last year under my leadership at Amazon and we decided to offer return internship not sure if that is going to happen in 2023.
I’m shocked PayPal has that many votes. Nothing against PayPal at all, but Amazon will easily open more doors for you. It’s clear just looking at LinkedIn - most people with Amazon internships ends up with full time offers at least as good as Amazon. People with PayPal internships are all over the place - some better offers, some at no-name companies
PayPal’s comp also likely is not as good as Amazon
Settle for PayPal- friend at Amazon just told me they are laying off 18,000 ppl next week.
8000*
I don’t think they laid off 10k in Nov, so definitely not 8k. Its 18k in total including Nov layoff.
