Hi, Blind community! Would like to get some perspectives on the Walmart and Amazon offers that I just received. Slightly more interested in Amazon Fashion's work but it's offered at $80K less than Walmart... A few questions here: 1) Is the Amazon brand better than Walmart that's worth $80K in TC? 2) Are Strategy roles better perceived than Marketing roles and will have higher long-term pay potential? (I went to business school where almost everybody wants to do Strategy...) 3) Is Amazon culture very concerning? (Both Amazon and Walmart's hiring managers seem very nice, but I'm looking to have a decent WLB due to family reasons.) TC breakdown: Walmart: Strategy Role TC @ $300K Base + performance bonus @ 25%: $225K Sign-on cash: $37K (over 2 years) Sign-on equity and grant: $267K (over 4 years) Amazon Fashion: Marketing Role TC @ $220K Base: $151K Sign-on cash: $105K (over 2 years) Equity: @$145K (54 shares over 4 years) Background: 10 years of work experience Top MBA Marketing and Analytics background #amazon #walmart #offer #tc #companyculture #mba #tech
I'm surprised your b school class didn't want to go to MBB/IB/VC/PE over strategy.
The pressure and wlb isnt all that great at MBB. The Wal Mart TC is already at the consultant level anyway.
For 10 YOE Walmart is decent, but MBB is like 250k out of MBA. WLB is atrocious I agree. There's no way I'd work 70 hr/week and be travelling 3-5 days a week. Exit opportunities is good from MBB though.
Find out if strategy role is really strategy at walmart. I have seen a lot of people with strategy titles who are basically PMO
^this. I have seen many cases where they are proj managers in the strategy org. The comp seems legit but do find out.
What level role is the opportunity at Walmart?
Senior manager :)
Based on perf bonus percentage looks like x6 (x5 and x6 are both senior manager)
Can people vote for Amazon give your rationale?
Equity should be vested over 3 years
you are right - because amazon is 4 years, I tried to calculate Walmart's for 4 years for comparison. The calculation is based on "This position is eligible to receive an annual RSU award in an amount equivalent to $50,000" (vesting over 3 years). Is the calculation right?
Walmart Vs Amazon makes a huge difference in your resume. Walmart is full of non-professional people and practices. Go to Amazon, you will grow faster, and will be valued much higher in the industry. Optimize for the longer term, and I am sure it's not that long before you will break even and start making even more.
Location?
Bay Area
You are overestimated and wrongly calculated Walmart compensation. performance bonus is not flat and depending upon bell curve rating you can get less than that too. Similarly annual grant is not constant and it is tied to your performance and bell curve may reduce your amount even if you gets meet expectations or success rating. Walmart stock is BS.
Thank you for sharing! Understood the performance bonus is not flat but it's still better than Amazon without any performance bonus and lower base? For the annual grant, I calculated based on "This position is eligible to receive an annual RSU award in an amount equivalent to $50,000". Assuming meeting expectations, how much is it likely to get reduced?
meet expectations rating doesn’t guarantee the exact eligible amount, if VP/ Director decides to redistribute based on bell curve such that no one gets 100% of that except exceed rating holder then even meet expectations rating candidate can get less than your promised 50K. It has happened many times.
Why are you moving from Meta to ecommerce
No. If anything take Wal Mart then go to Amazon after you set your TC higher.
