Hi Amazonians, I'm sde1 with 3.5 YOE who are going to join AWS in the next few weeks and I think I'm downleveled. How to communicate with my manager for level up within the first 6 months? Just asking for it ? Is it really make sense? I mean have you ever seen this happened in Amazon?#leetcode #amazon
It depends upon orgs sometimes. I have seen people getting promoted after 1-1.5 years in Alexa and Consumer payments org. For AWS the promotion times are usually larger.
Consumer Payments? lol. Which team?
1.5 years is average in my org. New college hires more like 2-2.5 years. Industry hires between 1-1.5 years. Shortest I have seen was 10 months for a super star. Longest was 3.25 years - if it doesn't happen by 3.5 years you are likely gone.
Will you even have your first performance evaluation in six months? How can you level up so soon?
Most likely won’t happen. 6 months is too fast of a timeframe. Besides, promo happen every quarter and you need to be preparing for it at least 2 months before they go live. If you’re accepting the offer thinking you’ll get promoted in 6 months, think again
Thanks dude! How long does it take from sde1 to sde2 in average?
Average timeline is around 1.5-2 years. This includes college hires and industry hires. Industry hires are definitely faster. However, a lot of things need to align for your promotion to happen (right team, projects, manager etc).
