I worked for amazon for less than 2 years and now they are asking for a relocation refund in pre tax money, they mentioned I can reclaim the tax on the returned money. Do I need to reclaim the tax for relocation in my return for 2023 or can I do this for 2024 return (which would be filed in 2025)? Also for people in a similar situation what service did you use to file the taxes? Very new to the US taxing system and it seems quite messy. I wish those morons just asked for the post tax money back.
I'm guessing you resigned ? I'll be in the same situation soon. Did you get this as a standard mail after your resignation?
Yes, they reach within a few weeks after you leave
Also, be sure that they’re asking for the pro-rated amount back. I.e., if you left after 1 year, you only owe 12 months back, not the full relo package.
Yup, this is prorated

If Amazon is clawing back the relo in 2024 then your 2024 w2 will be reduced, which means you are liable for less taxes on your 2024 return in 2025
Their notice said I need to reclaim with irs as w2 cannot be amended? Very confusing. The relocation entries do not even show up in my 2024 pay slips.
When exactly did you leave?
