Hi everyone, Wanted to ask for help if anyone here had a similar situation in the past and can advise if there is any legal action I can take - I would really appreciate your support. Amazon has just called me to rescind my full time blue badge offer - right at the day of my official relocation from California to Seattle, that they have sponsored. (L6 Product Manager offer) I’m in this surreal situation where all my house stuff is already loaded into a van (movers in my house finishing their job), I left my job at HP for this offer, I’m moving my husband to Seattle and rescinded the house lease so as of tomorrow have no place to stay except for temporary housing provided by Amazon in Seattle (where I won’t be moving anymore in this situation). I can’t believe they just called the whole thing off…at this stage of the process! We had a flight to Seattle booked for tomorrow. They proposed a compensation of 1 month salary “for a hardship” - which is a joke. If anyone can advise, what (if any?) lawsuit options I have, I would really appreciate that. Also if anyone of you is looking for a passionate senior product manager for your team, please let me know. Edit: Here is my LinkedIn Post. If you can help spread the “like” love, or share it with who may be searching for PMs, I’ll be incredibly grateful: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/aleksandra-litwinska-6b262713_offer-rescinded-product-activity-7008498442578583552-86Hj?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios TC offer at Amazon: $260k #amazon #offer #productmanager #rescinding #contract #legal #help #job #layoffs #severance #l6 #relocation
I have no advice but extending my sympathy. That’s a shitty move from Amazon, to say the least (no pun intended). Good luck
Thank you very much. Hope it all turns around for the best..
It’s a lot of feelings to unpack, I hope you’re ok op and remember that you’ll get through this

Thank you!
I am not surprised at Amazon’s decisions. What I am surprised about: - people’s continued willingness to put their eggs in one basket. - people not thinking ahead. - people’s continued willingness to quit before you actually started the job. I learned my lesson - Contract job pulled the rug after 5 months. Had nothing to fall back on. I seriously got lucky and landed two jobs. I maintained both since then. - No debt(other than mortgage). - All assets. - Building a dividend income stream so I don’t have to work. I never want to go through that again. So I did what was necessary. Fuck that. Another example: The death of Tax Prep is coming. I bounced now to watch it burn from afar. - Not hanging my career on a shaky rack. - Not interested in being around burning people.
Oh my gosh this is terrible! I don’t have any legal advice but am so sorry to hear this. Perhaps if you can escalate the situation internally you could get help (your “to be” VP etc). You could even try to track them down on LinkedIn to tell them your story.
Thank you! Will give it a try.
Yeah +1 for this. "It was my dream to be at Amazon. Reference the principles. Talk about why you were such a great fit. Lay it out exactly how you did. Surreal situation, least canceled, house packed into a truck they paid for, now about to be homeless courtesy of my dream company. How could this be?" Short, keep it sweet, keep it in a form that is easily shareable internally. Get that out to a few folks, hit people up on LinkedIn. I know things are crazy, but that is some crazy s*** and if the right person internally hears about it, they can help.
Yaicks! That is one of the worst situations I have heard of in a while. I hope you’re not on H1B. Take a deep breath. Know that it could be worse. And then laydown your options. Pros and cons. Because thats all you can do now. Be solution focused.
This also highlights that one should do whats best for one self and not the company because they will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat which it appears they have.
This is crazy. My recommendation is to see if you can get your job at HP back and your current lease back. If you are moving for Amazon just halt that process. All the expenses you have incurred should be taken care of by Amazon/the month of pay. Only once you have settled, approach a lawyer and see if you can get any additional compensation as part of this situation.
you might not want to accept the month of pay if it avoid future litigation
Sorry this happened to you, also making a plug for having no shame in going back to your HP manager and seeing if you can come back. Take a Seattle trip nevertheless and spend some time decompressing while you figure out next steps?
none
so sorry for your situation!! i don’t think you can do much other than get a hotel for now and plan for the next steps
For clarity was this a contract role or fte? Not that it is any less crappy for a contract position
It was an FTE position :(
A MONTH???? Holy shit, so sorry to hear OP. That’s rough as hell. I don’t know of any roles but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. Wishing you the best!
Thanks so much for the support. Means a lot to me
Accepting an offer from Amazon will never be the right thing to do, I guess. Op, try Reddit legal advice subreddit. They have a simple hatred for Amazon and will really try to help. GL
