How does the salary changes between locations? I read somwhere that except bay area everything else is same. Whereas when I asked HR about Seattle compensation and that I should get the same, she told me that Seattle salary will be higher than Nashville, is that right? (or HR trying to lowball me) #Amazon #L6 #Salary #seattle

Yes salaries are adjusted by location. Bay area just has a higher base salary cap (185k vs 160k everywhere else)
Never lived in CA or NY but even if Seattle weather sucks why would anyone take CA or NY when the $25k extra barely covers the tax difference?? How about the TC difference? Does it make a way bigger difference? I've heard you don't get rsu when you move cities to a higher base city but when you join they make it worth while?
Because Seattle simply isn’t where a large portion of top talent wants to be. Live a dull Seattle life between work, traffic, and your big house, or take a slight effective paycut but have an exciting life in New York where work is just one of many things that you do in a given day. People have different priorities.
Don't get me wrong, I would take NYC or CA any day before Seattle but the slight effective paycut you're talking about is 35 to 40% if the rsu don't also go up with the location... Some people's priority is to live the "insta" life they simply can't afford...I get it, it's a hipster thing to live in Hoboken and pretend it's Manhattan.
just check levels.fyi and filter on location. also i’m pretty sure seattle is higher COL Nashville so higher Seattle salary makes sense to me.
